Amanda Browder

Born in Missoula, MT. Amanda teaches at the School of the Art Institute in the Fibers Department and has lived in Chicago for the last four years. She has shown at galleries such as White Columns in New York, The Hyde Park Art Center and Western Exhibitions in Chicago, and Lothringer 14 in Munich, Germany. "I would describe my work as being soft sculpture/found object installation with an affinity for abstraction and minimalism. I use forms that are similar to the images in a comic book. Reduced, simplified, and reconfigured to be idealized and sensational. I appreciate the transformative nature of materials, and how the combination of familiar objects can create abstract relationships. These relationships generate open-ended narratives, and ambiguous situations that are defined by the choice of materials. Central to the psychedelic experience, I use bright colors and familiar materials to recreate this subtle change in perception."

Kirsten Leenaars

"If someone asked me,"What drives you to make work?" I would feel a little uneasy at first and finally say "My work finds its origin in my love of people." I would give this answer after some hesitation, and with a little embarrassment, because the word 'love' seems a little naive and too general a tern to describe the much more complex notion of love that motivates me. This is not 'love' in the merely personal sense- in the sense that I love my familiy, chocolate ice cream or a walk in the park- but is rather love as a state of being. This love takes the form a state of awarenes of the private fears and longings in a world full of projections- the projection of the ideals we gaurd, keep and identify with.
